May 6th Saturday 7pm Blue Train The band’s name, Blue Train, was suggested by the group’s banjo player, Daryl Tunink. Blue stands for emotion and sometimes sadness often depicted in bluegrass music, and Train stands for the power and drive that exists within this great genre of American music. Between them, the members of Blue Train have many musical influences and experiences. As you listen to Blue Train, feel the emotion of the stories shared through the lyrics of the songs. Feel energized by the amazing talent these musicians have for blending their instruments and musical influences for a powerful performance!!
May 13th Saturday 7pm Loco Focos The Loco-focos are a Living History organization whose purpose is to illuminate the first documentable publicly performed blending of early Euro-American and African American musical elements resulting in the Nation’s first uniquely American music and constitutes the start of American popular music.
May 20th Saturday 7pm Northwest Arkansas Brass Ensemble The NWA Heritage Brass Ensemble was created in 2018 for a performance at Pea Ridge National Military Park. Since that time the group has performed at many historic sites including Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park, Headquarters House Museum in Fayetteville, King Opera House in Van Buren, and at Fort Smith National Historic Site. Music is drawn from various historic sources including the surviving music of the 26th North Carolina Band. Instrumentation inspiration as well as music inspiration comes from the 37th Illinois Regimental Band. The 37th was stationed in Southwest Missouri in late 1861 and would serve at the battles of Pea Ridge and Prairie Grove before moving across the Mississippi river. Certainly, their music was heard in the Ozark mountains and there are specific references in surviving diaries of the band and its members during their time in the Ozarks region.
May 27th Saturday 7pm Missouri State University Community Band The Missouri State Community Band is comprised of over 75 wind and percussion musicians from throughout the Southwest Missouri area. The band is truly Springfield’s community band—the members reflect a wide range of ages, vocations, and professions, having been drawn together by a common love for making music on their chosen instruments.
