Recreating the Battle of Wilson’s Creek visually poses a significant challenge for historians and interpreters. Notably, there are no known wartime photographs of the battlefield, and Civil War-era illustrations frequently contain questionable or contradictory details. To address this, National Park Service employees collaborate with contemporary artists like Greg Harlin. They rely on primary sources, such as eyewitness accounts, to craft full-color renderings of the battle’s crucial moments, thus vividly bringing the past to life.
