Join us for this special five-week series highlighting the stories behind battlefield preservation, commemoration, and the legacy of Wilson’s Creek. Programs feature expert historians and authors who will explore how this hallowed ground was shaped—and saved—by those who came before us.

July 6 – United in Death
Amy Laurel Fluker shares the unique story of how Union and Confederate supporters in Springfield cooperated to honor the dead and model postwar reconciliation.

July 13 – Wilson’s Creek: History, Memory & Preservation
Dr. William Piston reflects on why Wilson’s Creek was overlooked for decades—and how its pristine landscape became a symbol of sacred ground.

July 20 – Creating a Park
Michael Price traces the transformation of the battlefield into a national park, driven by the dedication of local citizens.

August 3 – Lucile Morris Upton: Newspaperwoman of the Ozarks
Susan Croce Kelly tells the story of the journalist who helped turn Wilson’s Creek into a national park through decades of advocacy and reporting.
