On the morning of August 10, 1861, Union and Southern troops clashed at Wilson’s Creek in the second major battle of the Civil War. Some of the most pivotal and deadly moments of that day unfolded on a ridge that became known as Bloody Hill.
Today, we have a rare and meaningful opportunity to protect a portion of this hallowed ground.
The Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield Foundation has partnered with the American Battlefield Trust (ABT) to preserve five acres on Bloody Hill, committing $25,000 toward this critical effort. This pledge is part of a nationwide American Battlefield Trust campaign to save 141 acres of threatened battlefield land at Wilson’s Creek, Shiloh, and Bentonville.
Preserving these five acres safeguards the historic character and integrity of the battlefield, allowing visitors to experience the terrain much as soldiers did in 1861.
You can be part of this preservation effort. By supporting the Trust’s campaign, you help ensure that these irreplaceable landscapes are protected from development and preserved as places of learning, reflection, and remembrance.
Because of the generosity of donors like you, the Foundation can act quickly when historic land becomes available. Your past support has already protected sacred ground at Wilson’s Creek, and your continued partnership makes moments like this possible.
Together, we can ensure Bloody Hill remains a place where history is honored, understood, and passed on to future generations.
Thank you for standing with us in preserving America’s hallowed ground.
