The Confederate Cherokee Mounted Rifles regimental flag, known as “Cherokee Braves,” recently returned from Harpers Ferry Center where it received preservation treatment. The flag is part of the permanent collection at Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield, and on loan to Pea Ridge National Military Park through June 2024.
This rare flag, with eleven white stars representing the states of the Confederacy and five red stars representing the Cherokee, Creek, Choctaw, Chickasaw, and Seminole nations, will return to Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield and rest for one year. Now’s your chance to see the flag at Pea Ridge!
This is a joint preservation effort between the Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield Foundation, Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield, the National Park Service, and the Pea Ridge National Military Park Foundation. Thank you, donors, for supporting preservation projects!
